GreenBy3 Hosts Henderson County Young Professionals at Biz611

On Thursday, September 4th, the GreenBy3 team hosted the monthly Henderson County Young Professionals (HCYP) social at Biz611, the green business incubator in Hendersonville, NC that GreenBy3 helped create and which currently houses our second office. HCYP, led by Andrew Tate, President and CEO at Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development, is a networking group for professionals in the Henderson County area that meets for a monthly social to catch up, announce events and make new connections.     GreenBy3 was fortunate to have hosted September’s monthly social, as we were able to provide details about the construction of Biz611 and the planning and sustainable technology that went into the effort. The social was well attended as usual with many familiar faces and a few new ones, including Biz611 tenants George Jones of ED3 Group and Kendall Weaver and Kevin Stipe of Peppermint Media Group. The wine and local craft beers at the social were donated by the great folks at Just Vino of Flat Rock, NC. Overall, it was another successful social in the books for...

The Free Clinics’ Spring Salon Celebrates Sustainable Design at Biz611

Editor’s note: Biz611 will host The Free Clinics’ annual Spring Salon April 25 from 5-8 p.m. GreenBy3 oversaw and managed the construction of Biz611, a business incubator that opened in Hendersonville in June 2013. For tickets to the Spring Salon, please scroll to the bottom. HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — After seven years of success, The Free Clinics’ (TFC’s) annual Spring Salon has become known around town as an unparalleled event. A celebration of fine food, fine wine, and fine design, all in the name of providing access to high quality health care for those in need, the Salon has emerged as the signature event for the local nonprofit, and a party not to missed. A few short months ago, however, the prospects for this year’s Salon didn’t look good. “In December we found out that our longtime hosts, Salon Blue Ridge, were closing,” explains Judith Long, Executive Director of TFC. Salon Blue Ridge sold luxury kitchen and bath fixtures and appliances, and their owners decided to close their Hendersonville location....

Biz611 Opens In Hendersonville

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – Biz611, a first-of-its-kind sustainable building in Hendersonville, is now open. The building was designed as a business incubator to help cultivate young startups focused on helping the environment and developing software. GreenBy3, a company that acts as an onsite representative for its clients on construction projects, oversaw the construction of Biz611. Biz611 (pronounced Biz Six Eleven) is located at 611 N. Church St. in downtown Hendersonville. It incorporates a long list of sustainable practices in the way it was built and in the way it’s designed to operate. The hope is that Biz611 will serve to educate the tenants, as well as the community, on sustainable building and operating practices. The 9,500-square-foot building maximizes natural light, generates solar energy and captures water for use by way of an inverted roof and cistern. It also features a “living wall,” or a vertical green wall. Biz611 also has displays and readouts throughout to monitor the building’s performance, allowing tenants to track their impact on the building’s energy consumption. The...

Water Conservation by Design

The  GreenBy3 team went to Hendersonville this week to work on some of the finishing touches being made to Biz611. The interior is really taking shape and looking good and there is lots of activity outside the building. We were glad to see a paved parking lot, despite frequent rain in the last few weeks. Solar panels are in place. A grid is being installed on the east wall facing Church Street that will be the trellis for the “green wall”. Landscaping crews were installing plants including relocating trees and plantings that had outgrown their placement at the Landmark Apartments . We want to give you a closer look at a cleverly designed water conservation feature — the inverted roof. In this picture you see the east wall of the building (with the trellis for the living wall). You can also see how the roof angels down toward the middle on each side. This design captures rainwater in a trough. Half of the captured rain water runs to the east...

Did You Say “Dirt”??

A couple of years ago, GreenBy3 was able to reclaim 12,000 sq. ft of a modular office wall and raised flooring system  by the trade name of DIRTT, from an entire floor of a North Charleston office building. Not only did we prevent this high quality modular system from hitting the landfill, we’ve been able to use it effectively on several of our recent projects, including Biz611. DIRTT stands for “Doing It Right This Time” and is made by a Canadian company that takes care to produce their products in the greenest ways possible. Their manufacturing methods, their marketing tools and their people take great strides to reduce waste, reduce their carbon footprint and reduce their energy use. The DIRTT product is a a system of walls and doors that is easy to customize and reconfigure to meet the client’s needs and space. A raised floor conceals data and communication cable but makes them accessible for troubleshooting, repair, and rearranging. One of the reasons we felt the DIRTT office...
