GreenBy3 Speaks at Career Day at Pinehurst Elementary School
Jorge had a nice change of pace recently when he was a guest at Career Day for 5th graders at Pinehurst Elementary School in North Charleston.
It is great to have the opportunity to talk to kids about what we do at GreenBy3 and about all the things that are important to us — being involved in the community, protecting our environment, and helping people. The more we can share our knowledge and experiences with the next generations, the more positive the impact will be.
Jorge talks with 5th graders at Pinehurst Elementary School about what GreenBy3 does — and much more.
To explain what GreenBy3 does, Jorge asked the students what type of business they’d like to own someday. There was a lot of response to that one! One girl said she wanted to open a bookstore. Jorge called on others to help build the store.
“What kind of business do you want to own someday?”
Jorge explained that GreenBy3 coordinates all the people who help build a building while the business owner focuses on her business — in this case, selecting books to sell in the store and helping customers select and buy their books. There was discussion about teamwork — something these students were familiar with and interested to think of it as important not only in sports but also in a future career.
Coordination, Teamwork and Protect the Environment — another way of saying: Coordination, Collaboration, and Sustainability.
Jorge also stressed the importance of protecting our environment, He gave lots of examples of reusing materials to build things — like plastic drink bottles used to build a greenhouse. The students loved talking about all the ordinary things that can be saved and reused, donated, and/or recycled.
“Recycle whatever you can whenever you can.” There are a lot of ways to use this plastic bottle after the water is gone!
GreenBy3 welcomes the opportunity to make an impression on young people and encourage them to know they can make a positive difference now as well as when they are older.
Kristin Hale was the mastermind behind Career Day. Five 5th grade classes met four different presenters — all talking about their careers and the kinds of interests, skills, and knowledge lead to similar kinds of work. The purpose was for students to begin to think about their own interests and what they will need to focus on in school in order to end up doing the kind of work that best suits their interests and strengths.
