GreenBy3 at Dig South

What are you doing and where are you going? These are very  important questions to the owner of a business that is in the throes of growth. However, many business owners become overwhelmed with all the questions that must be asked  when they are looking for office space. What kind of location do you want? What are your technology needs? Where do your employees live? What kind of flexibility do you need in a lease? What kind of up-fits are needed to allow your company to continue to grow? What do you need to anticipate so you can set up your space to grow with your company? And perhaps more importantly: How do you continue to grow your business when you are trying to answer all of these questions – and more? GreenBy3’s  founder, Jorge Riano, sat on a panel of four experts at the recent Dig South conference to discuss this topic. The panel discussion was called, “Your future in space: Meeting your workplace needs when you...

GreenBy3 Speaks at Career Day at Pinehurst Elementary School

Jorge had a nice change of pace recently when he was a guest at Career Day for 5th graders at Pinehurst Elementary School in North Charleston. It is great to have the opportunity to talk to kids about what we do at GreenBy3 and about all the things that are important to us — being involved in the community, protecting our environment, and helping people. The more we can share our knowledge and experiences with the next generations, the more positive the impact will be. To explain what GreenBy3 does, Jorge asked the students what type of business they’d like to own someday. There was a lot of response to that one! One girl said she wanted to open a bookstore. Jorge called on others to help build the store. Jorge explained that GreenBy3 coordinates all the people who help build a building while the business owner focuses on her business — in this case, selecting books to sell in the store and helping customers select and buy...

New Space Encourages New Ideas

Crisis Ministries‘ new building is rapidly taking shape these days. This new facility, including a men’s shelter with designated beds for homeless veterans, a new kitchen and dining room, and additional administrative offices, will enable Crisis Ministries to expand their efforts to end homelessness. For several years, Crisis Ministries staff, board members, and volunteers have been exploring successful, innovative programs that address homelessness all around the country. In 2011, GreenBy3’s Jorge Riano was part of a delegation from Crisis Ministries that visited FareStart in Seattle Washington. Founded in 1992, FareStart provides homeless and disadvantaged people with life skills, job training, and employment in the food service industry. Partnering with local chefs and restaurants, participants learn to cook and manage commercial restaurant operations. The FareStart restaurant, open for business one night a week, is a popular dining spot in Seattle. On each “open to the public” night, program participants work under the tutelage of a local guest chef and community volunteers are the wait staff and hostesses. Recent program reports indicate...

Following the Ride the Future Tour

Electric Vehicle enthusiasts such as GreenBy3’s Jorge Riano have had a great time this summer following Ride the Future Tour — a cross-country caravan of all kinds of EVs — cars, motorcycles, scooters, and bikes — traveling to promote EV propulsion and to set four Guinness Book World Records! The tour started at Brittlebank Park right here in Charleston on July 4 (celebrating Independence, get it?) and made their goal of 44 cities in 44 days to finish at Google Headquarters in Mountain View, California on Aug. 16. 3,000 miles – Zero Gas. The idea started with one woman who wanted to do it — and it grew. The purpose was to demonstrate –  to the whole country –  just how amazing electric vehicles really are. If you’re tired of dependence on gasoline – there IS another option – even if you want to take a cross country road trip. So, what if you had an electric vehicle and wanted to go across country — or to Columbia for...

Localizing Your Supply Chain at the GOODBusiness Summit

In June GreenBy3 attended the GOODBusiness Summit, sponsored by Lowcountry Local First. The purpose of the event was to give local businesses an opportunity to explore alternative business models that support new paradigms in the business community. Jorge participated in a panel discussion called Localizing Your Supply Chain where he offered local entrepreneurs innovative solutions on how to keep it local. He also shared personal experiences with the audience and stressed the importance of building business resources. During the panel discussion, Jorge tackled the frequently asked question, “How is it possible to buy everything 100% local?” His answer: Rome wasn’t built in a day. He reminded the audience that you don’t have to buy everything local on Day One, instead it’s important to think of  it as a journey. We should concern ourselves with what we can accomplish today, but remember that one day we want to reach the goal of buying 100% local. How should a new business begin to localize their supply chain? Network with like-minded people and businesses who share a similar...
